Information collected on server-side and client-side installations

The core of the Photonix product is a server-side application that you or your organization hosts to manage photos. We strive to keep your personal photos and associated metadata from ever leaving your machine(s).

All account data, metadata and application data created through use of the system remains solely on a database on your installation machine(s) (and any other machines you choose to backup to). It is your responsibility to secure access to this database, the web interface and APIs that make up a Photonix installation. Please see documentation from us and the community for advice in doing this.

Image analysis performed on photos to automatically tag features is carried out solely on the machine(s) you installed Photonix server on. We have have chosen to implement our own internal algorithms rather than sending your photos to third party APIs for processing. Examples of this are object detection, color detection, location lookup and face recognition.

For some use cases data many need to be fetched from remote servers. Examples of this are when downloading machine learning image analysis models or map tiles used when viewing photos by location. The main reason for this is that the file sizes are very large and are unlikely to be used by every user. In these cases requests can be logged by us or third parties providing these files.

We provide mobile and desktop client applications to connect to the server component of an installation. These client applications do not contain trackers or advertising code. All data sent from these, including photos, will go directly to the server you chose to connect to.
